Floyd Landis won today's decisive time trial, beating second-place finisher Dave Zabriskie by 26 seconds. His performance earned him a 29 second lead in the overall standings, and the yellow leader's jersey.

Levi Leipheimer slipped back in the standings with a ninth-place finish, 1:16 behind Landis. He had trouble fighting the headwinds on the way to the finish. "The last 12km, it just wasn't my thing," he said. "I'm 60 kilos (less than 135 pounds), and it's a head wind, dead flat. It's hard for me to compete against the bigger guys. That's just the way it goes."

Landis demonstrated his new, flat-back time trial position in his dominating performance. The position looks unique, but no one can question the result as Landis was the only rider of the day to finish in under 36 minutes.

Gerolsteiner rider Levi Leipheimer feels that this win was decisive:

"It looks to me like Floyd's got it. There's no one left that can really challenge the GC, so I think it's pretty much finished."

That remains to be seen. Floyd Landis' ride sets up a battle over the next three mountainous stages, as Team Discovery, CSC and Gerolsteiner fight to get their leaders back onto the top of the podium.
