The race saw two nearly-successful breaks: One long solo by Sebastian Lang of Gerolsteiner, and then another gutsy jump by Fabian Wegmann with only 800 meters to go. But in the end it was Olaf at the line. Lang won the Adobe Most Agressive Rider jersey, but was plagued by bad luck: Late in the race a botched wheel change cut his lead from over three minutes to only 1:30. Later, as he tried to bridge to a late-race breakaway, he apparently bumped into a fan and knocked his helmet askew. He lost his chance to bridge and ended up back in the peloton. It was Pollack's lucky day though. Team CSC was controlling the pace, setting up Stuart O'Grady for the final sprint in much the same way that George Hincapie was set up by Discovery in stage 5. But an early sprint by Rene Haselbacher of Gerolsteiner caused the entire peloton to jump early. Olaf Pollack played his cards right and crossed the finish line first. This sets up quite a chess match between the top three sprinters in the race for Stage 7. George Hincapie, Olaf Pollack and JJ Haedo are separated by only 10 points. With three sprints plus the finish, the green jersey is up for grabs. Check back for further updates, or view the Adobe Live Coverage Window for photos and video. ![]() |
